Halevi ends North Brigade commander in Gaza Division's tenure
Israeli website Walla reports that the Chief of Staff of the Israeli occupation army decided to terminate the duties of the Northern Brigade commander in the Gaza Division following investigations into the war.
According to the Israeli website Walla, the Chief of Staff of the Israeli occupation army, Herzi Halevi, decided to end the tenure of Haim Cohen, the commander of the Northern Brigade in the Gaza Division, before the completion of his term.
The website explained that this decision was made in light of the General Staff's investigation into the ongoing war since October 7. The inquiry revealed confusion and poor performance by the Israeli army on the first day of the war in responding to the operation launched by the Resistance in the Gaza Strip.
Israeli Channel Kan had previously reported that political figures within the occupation entity are eager to see Halevi removed from his position in the near future.
The channel also reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Security Minister Israel Katz "are pushing for Halevi's resignation soon, after the end of the war in Lebanon and the release of the investigations into the October 7 events."
The channel reported that security and political sources, as well as ministers in the cabinet, confirmed their intention for the Chief of Staff to "complete his duties within the next two or three months."
In the same context, the Israeli Channel 14 website reported that Halevi "hinted at his intention to resign from his position after the completion of the investigations into the October 7 events, in a letter addressed to leaders within the army."
It is worth noting that Avi Rosenfeld, the commander of the Gaza Division in the Israeli army, resigned from his position last June after admitting failure in confronting the Resistance in the Gaza Strip. This came more than eight months after the onset of Operation al-Aqsa Flood.
Last week, the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation cited Halevi's internal message to Israeli soldiers on November 29 as he said he would make "personal decisions" as leaders take responsibility.
Halevi stated that unlike in the past, the Israeli army opted to undertake rigorous debriefing sessions on October 7 while the war was ongoing. Usually, such probes are only undertaken after battles end.
While Halevi did not specify a clear date for the investigation's conclusion, the attention has shifted to the military's preparation and response with numerous Israeli military, security, and political authorities taking personal responsibility for the inability to prevent the attack.
It is worth noting that "Israel" has been embroiled in investigations into the many intelligence failures of that day, implicating even Israeli occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
