Israeli military probe 'lightyears distant from the truth': Official
The Israeli military probe launched to investigate the events of October 7 does not shed the truth on what happened, according to an official in the Southern Command.
An Israeli official from the Israeli occupation forces' Southern Command, has accused the military of withholding facts on the events of October 7, when the Palestinian Resistance attacked Israeli military positions in the Gaza Envelope.
The official testified anonymously before an independent civilian commission, inquiring into the events of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood.
Lambasting Israeli military investigations, the official said that almost every probe launched by the military "is lightyears distant from the truth" and "motivated by a strategy of protecting each other."
He pointed out that one of the officers put in charge of the probe was supposed to be promoted by the Chief of Staff, Herzi Halevi, saying that such conditions would amount to "a clear conflict of interest."
"So how can he investigate the commanders' performance?"
The official was also avoided in questioning in the probe, as they claim that he was told that the investigators had to protect "the general," and that if he had been questioned investigators "would not have been able to protect the general and the command."
"I can unhesitatingly say that the truth is not being told to the families of the surveillance soldiers," he added, referring to a set of Israeli military servicewomen who came under attack at the Nahal Oz military site.
During last week’s commission hearing, several former surveillance soldiers and the parents of the killed soldiers expressed their frustrations over persistent technical issues with their monitoring equipment. They also noted a lack of training on how to respond if their bases were attacked.
The families of the surveillance troops have long called for an investigation into the military command's apparent neglect of these troops' warnings prior to October 7.
Such statements made by Israeli military officials only confirm the Israeli regime's deliberate construction of lies, especially if investigations may harm Israeli officers and soldiers. Yet, United States President Joe Biden's administration and other Western governments continue to promote the Israeli military command as capable of conducting internal investigations into war crimes and crimes against humanity that its forces committed in the Gaza Strip and elsewhere.
