Hamas says IOF war on Gaza is revenge, not pressure; toll hits 50,810

Hamas condemned Israeli actions in Gaza, accusing it of enacting revenge against innocent civilians, in a statement published on Tuesday.
The Palestinian group accused "Israel" of carrying out retaliatory attacks against innocent civilians in Gaza, rather than just applying "military pressure", calling on the international community to "fulfill its responsibility and immediately halt" the unabated atrocities in Gaza.
It stressed that "military escalation won't bring the Israeli captives back alive" but rather "endangers and kills them," emphasizing that negotiation remains "the only way to secure their release."
"Netanyahu's strategy of targeting civilians - children, women and the elderly - in Gaza won't achieve any military victory, but will inevitably backfire," Hamas stated, adding that "escalating aggression won't break the Palestinian people's will - it will only strengthen their defiance and determination to resist."
This comes as "Israel" continues to escalate its war on Gaza, killing tens of civilians and injuring hundreds on a daily basis, while the UN reports that current Israeli policies in the Strip are the most extreme since October 7.
'Israel' continues to escalate its war on Gaza
"Israel" killed 58 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip on April 8, with an additional 213 wounded, as the Palestinian Health Ministry announced updated casualty figures from the ongoing Israeli offensive on the enclave, which has so far claimed 50,810 lives and left 115,688 injured since October 7, 2023.
Since March 18 alone, the toll stands at 1,449 killed and 3,647 wounded.
Casualties from the past 24 hours resulted from intense Israeli bombardment of the area, as occupation aircraft deliberately flew over Gaza, targeting civilian gatherings and residential homes, while Israeli forces continued firing on residents in multiple areas across the Strip.
Al Mayadeen's correspondent reported that Israeli occupation forces carried out large-scale demolition operations in the northernmost areas of the Gaza Strip and established a new military outpost in the al-Mintar area of the Shujaiya neighborhood, east of Gaza City—amid ongoing artillery shelling targeting the eastern districts of the area.
Gaza City also came under heavy bombardment, particularly in its eastern areas, where one person was killed and several others were wounded after an airstrike targeted a group of young men gathering firewood near the university college in southern Gaza.
An Israeli airstrike hit a home in the al-Salam neighborhood, while additional raids targeted areas south of Khan Younis—killing one person in an attack near Morag, south of the city. Meanwhile, Israeli artillery shelling struck the northern part of the al-Bureij refugee camp.
Meanwhile, in the south, a massive explosion rocked the Gaza Strip as Israeli forces demolished an entire residential block in northern Rafah, while occupation warplanes launched simultaneous airstrikes on the city's northwestern districts.
