Handmade bomb kills 3 Turkish soldiers on Syrian border
Three soldiers have been announced killed in a handmade bomb explosion on the Syria-Turkey border.
Today, Saturday, the Turkish Ministry of Defense announced that 3 of its soldiers were killed when a homemade explosive device detonated on the border with Syria.
The ministry said in a statement, "The explosion occurred on the border strip, in the Akcakale district of the state of Şanlıurfa, in the southeast of the country," noting that "militants were the ones who planted the explosive device."
On the other side of the Turkish border is Tal Abyad, which is a Syrian town captured by Turkish forces and its proxies after Erdogan launched a military operation against Kurdish militias in 2019.
Turkey has been launching multiple attacks inside Syria and Iraq against Kurdish forces.
The Turkish army’s attacks are repeated in the areas of northeastern Syria, as are the military operations targeting its forces, which are carried out by various armed groups.
Turkish artillery shells Syrian towns
Three days ago, Al Mayadeen's correspondent in Syria reported that the Turkish army's artillery targeted the town of Abu Rasin and the villages of Umm Al-Keif and Al-Dardara in the countryside of Al-Hasakah, northeastern Syria, noting that "The Turkish bombing led to the Tal Tamer power station becoming out of service as a result of being targeted by several missiles."
The past month witnessed a major Turkish escalation in villages in the northern countryside of Al-Hasakah. On December 31, 3 Syrian citizens, including a child and a woman, were killed, and others were injured as a result of Turkish forces' artillery bombardment of the village of Al-Asadiya and the town of Abu Rasin.
On the 22nd of December, 4 people were killed after 800 shells targeted the village of Umm Al-Keif in the countryside of Tal Tamer, Al-Hasakah governorate.
Furthermore, in mid-October, the Al Mayadeen correspondent in Syria reported the killing of two Turkish soldiers due to the detonation of an explosive device targeting a military convoy north of Idlib.
On September, 3 Turkish soldiers were killed and several others were wounded, when an explosive device went off, targeting a Turkish army convoy on the Idlib-Kafriya road.
