Haniyeh thanks Iran for support, urges more efforts to end genocide
In a phone call between Pezeshkian and Haniyeh, the latter thanked Iran for its unwavering support for the Palestinian people.
The head of the Hamas political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, expressed his gratitude toward Iran's continued support for the Palestinian cause and called for intensified efforts to end the Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip, during a phone call with Iranian president-elect Masoud Pezeshkian.
"We appreciate Iran for playing a role in supporting the Palestinian cause, and we demand more political and diplomatic efforts to bring an end to Israel’s aggression," Haniyeh said.
Regarding the mediated negotiations for a ceasefire in Gaza, Haniyeh reiterated Hamas' tangible flexibility in establishing a prisoner exchange deal, to which Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded by committing massacres against Palestinian civilians.
Pezeshkian, in this context, emphasized his country's unrelenting support for the people of Palestine, particularly during such times.
Earlier this week, the Iranian president then expressed his nation's "human and Islamic duty to support the Palestinian nation" in its struggle against the Israeli occupation, anchored by the principles and goals of the Islamic Revolution and the notions of its leader, Imam Khomeini.
"[Iran] will continue to support the oppressed Palestinian nation until the realization of all its ideals and rights and the liberation of the holy al-Quds," Pezeshkian affirmed, emphasizing that in light of the bravery and devotion of the people of Palestine and their Resistance, "victory would be in the hands of dear Palestine."
His statement was made in a letter addressed to Haniyeh.
