Ali Larijani, the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, emphasized Hezbollah's strategic importance as a force that protects Lebanon.
In a speech from Ain el-Tineh during his visit to Lebanon on Saturday, Larijani affirmed that "Hezbollah is a fortress for the Lebanese people, and we welcome any political development that supports them," noting that "the Resistance represents a great asset for the Islamic nation, especially Hezbollah, which forms an impregnable barrier against Israel."
He also highlighted the role of the late Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, stating that he recognized the threat posed by "Israel" decades ago and developed plans for confrontation, with the Resistance proving itself to be the only rational path against arrogance.
In response to the question of whether Iran provides weapons to Hezbollah, he stated that "Hezbollah does not need weapons from anyone," adding that "it is strong enough that it does not need to acquire weapons from somewhere else."
Larijani additionally commented on US envoy Tom Barack's claims that the Secretary of the SNSC provided several million dollars in financial assistance to Hezbollah and whether Iran has a role in arming Hezbollah, stating, "I think Mr. Barack said that out of anger."
Lebanon, powerful nation in confronting 'Israel'
Furthermore, he noted that while Lebanon may be geographically small, it is a powerful nation in confronting "Israel", adding that Hezbollah's success in repelling Israeli aggression is a direct result of its successful internal restructuring, as without its strength, it would not have been able to withstand the assault.
Regarding Hezbollah's initiative toward Saudi Arabia, Larijani stated that "this represents a correct stance due to the existence of a common enemy for both parties," while praising Sheikh Naim Qassim's initiative and confirming that "his position is entirely correct and is in the right direction for the comfort of the people."
He further added that Saudi Arabia is a sister nation with which consultations are ongoing, and that today is a time for cooperation, emphasizing that Hezbollah's current stance of turning the page on the past and opening relations with others should not be mistaken for weakness.
Larijani also stressed that "Iran is prepared for all scenarios, and if Israel attacks Iran, it will receive a powerful response." He then shifted to the topic of Lebanon's internal affairs, clarifying, "We do not issue orders to anyone; our goal is for Lebanese officials to find solutions to their internal problems by themselves."
