Hezbollah still possesses capabilities, ground forces intact: Media
Israeli Channel 12's northern correspondent warns against announcing the Lebanese group's defeat, as it still enjoys missile capabilities and replacements for assassinated leaders.
Hezbollah still retains its missile-launching and military capabilities, an Israeli strategic advisor pointed out, cautioning that "Israel" must not underestimate this reality.
In an interview for Israeli Channel 12, Ayelet Frish highlighted that the Lebanese group’s "ground forces have largely remained intact." She warned that "it’s only a matter of time" before a new generation of fighters emerges following the Israeli assassination of Hezbollah's leaders.
Frish's remarks aligned with remarks by Channel 12's northern correspondent, Adar Gitsis, who warned against announcing the Lebanese group's defeat, as it still enjoys missile capabilities and replacements for assassinated leaders.
Regarding a ceasefire agreement, Frish pointed out that "Israel" has "exhausted the operation in Lebanon, but this doesn’t mean that Hezbollah has been disarmed, as promised by the new security minister."
"It is time to close this chapter and begin returning northern residents, and I pray for the agreement to be signed soon," she added.
The Israeli strategic advisor pointed to positive signs of a potential ceasefire agreement and an approaching settlement. She claimed that there exists an agreement that has not received final approval.
She indicated that while Lebanon has provided a response, Hezbollah remains ready to act.
"There are positive indications that [US envoy] Amos Hochstein will arrive in Lebanon tomorrow. If all goes well, he will proceed directly to Israel, and we will see intensified political meetings," Frish said, stressing that "a firm approach" will lead to a ceasefire and calm on the northern border with Lebanon.
However, she highlighted a critical unresolved issue; "Israel’s" demand for freedom of action in Lebanon, which Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth previously addressed, noting that "Israel" estimates that Hezbollah and the Lebanese government will not accept unrestricted Israeli operations in the event of violations.
Israeli media have reported that Hezbollah demands the full implementation of Resolution 1701, stressing that it is unwilling to accept any clause related to "Israel’s freedom of action," including "the Israeli Air Force’s freedom of operation in Lebanese airspace" or any Israeli-American oversight concerning southern Lebanese villages.
