The Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF) has filed a complaint with the International Criminal Court seeking an arrest warrant against Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar for "war crimes and crimes against humanity committed during Israel’s ongoing military assault on Gaza since October 7, 2023."
Sa'ar is scheduled to visit Brussels, Belgium, on February 18, and the foundation asserted that allowing Sa'ar to visit Belgium without being arrested would be a "betrayal of international legal commitments and the fundamental principles of justice."
"As Belgium is a signatory to the Rome Statute, it has a legal obligation to cooperate with the ICC and take action against individuals accused of serious international crimes," HRF affirmed, calling on "Belgian authorities to ensure that Sa’ar does not evade justice while on European soil."
Hind Rajab Foundation's work
The Hind Rajab Foundation is the legal arm of the March 30 movement which was launched in response to the "urgency of the situation in Palestine, especially due to the genocide in Gaza in 2023/ 2024."
The foundation is named after Hind Rajab, a six-year-old girl who was killed by Israeli forces while she was stuck in a car with six other members of her family, as well as two paramedics who came to her rescue.
The foundation previously demanded the arrest of Israeli General Ghassan Alian while he was in Italy, after filing proceedings with the International Criminal Court and Italian authorities, with the foundation urging that "time is of the essence to ensure accountability for his actions."
The HRF filed another legal complaint against Israeli soldier Mori Keisar of the GIvati Brigade who was vacationing in Barcelona, Spain, saying that "the actions of Sergeant A and his platoon demonstrate systematic violations of international humanitarian law, targeting civilians and protected infrastructure."
In a similar vein, the foundation filed a complaint in Sweden against an IOF soldier for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide in Gaza with evidence including an image of him using his sniper rifle in Gaza.
