HRW director calls Israeli siege 'collective punishment', 'war crime'
Omar Shakir's post comes in response to the announcement by the Israeli Security Minister Yoav Gallant ordering a full siege of Gaza.
Omar Shakir, Human Rights Watch "Israel" and Palestine Director for Human Rights, slammed "Israel's" depriving of food and electricity to Gazans as "abhorrent".
In a response to the announcement made by the Israeli security minister Yoav Gallant ordering a full siege of the city, Shakir posted on X that depriving a population of food and electricity is "collective punishment" and that this is the Israeli occupation's method of utilizing starvation as a weapon of war.
Abhorrent. Depriving an occupied population of food & electricity is collective punishment—a war crime—as is using starvation as a weapon of war. This imperils the lives of 2.2 million Palestinians living under Israel's crushing, unlawful closure. @IntlCrimCourt should take note. https://t.co/ybi2VlwTZ5

The occupation's Security Minister Yoav Gallant, according to GLZ Radio, has ordered to cut off electricity, water, and food from Gaza in the aftermath of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, which has already left more than 900 settlers dead in one of the deadliest operations on the occupation in decades.
Gallant revealed the occupation's true face by referring to the Palestinians in Gaza as "human animals," who he will have to deal with "accordingly".
The IOF have already bombed Gaza and are currently still bombing it with rockets in a hysterical manner.
The Israeli occupation Air Force has conducted hundreds of consecutive and violent airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, targeting towers, residential buildings, and service facilities, causing devastating destruction to civilian properties and infrastructure and resulting in the deaths and injuries of mostly women, children, and elderly.
Al Mayadeen's correspondent in Gaza reported that the occupation is employing white phosphorus bombs in its brutal attacks on Palestinians in Gaza.
Since Saturday, when Operation Al-Aqsa Flood was launched, Israeli occupation forces have employed white phosphorus bombs during their airstrikes on the Gaza Strip. More than 600 Palestinians have been killed so far, and no fewer than 2,900 other citizens have been injured in various ways, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
