Human rights violations against civilians, Russian soldiers: Report
A UN report reveals violations committed by Ukrainian forces against captured Russian soldiers and pro-Russian civilians.
A report recently published by the United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU) revealed the violations committed by Ukrainian forces against captured Russian soldiers or pro-Russia civilians in areas under the Ukrainian government's control.
The report - which will be discussed at the Human Rights Council - highlighted that the Ukrainian forces committed premeditated killings while capturing Russian soldiers or pro-Russian civilians and threatened a Russian soldier with castration in front of the camera.
According to the report, "HRMMU has received credible allegations of more than 45 such cases of torture and ill-treatment by civilians, police officers and members of the territorial defence" forces in Ukraine.
"In most cases, perpetrators allegedly duct-taped individuals to electricity poles or trees, partially or fully stripped them, beat them, including with sticks and rods, and sprayed them with paint or marked their bodies and clothes with the word 'marauder'", the report explained.
The report expressed its concern over "the abundance of videos publicly available online depicting interrogations of prisoners of war (POW) by Ukrainian forces following their capture," adding that "In the videos, POWs are made to apologise to the Ukrainian people, disparage their command, glorify Ukrainian armed forces, or call on relatives to put a stop to the war."
On Tuesday, the head of the Russian National Defense Center Mikhail Mezentsev considered that Ukrainian forces have made more than 4.5 million Ukrainians, and more than 6,500 foreigners, as human shields.
Earlier, the Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov considered that Ukrainian nationalists are the only threat to civilians in Ukraine.
Antonov noted that Ukrainian ultra-nationalists place tanks and artillery near kindergartens and schools, prepare firing positions on the roofs of houses, and hide behind women and children, in order to inflict as many civilian casualties as possible.
