The Sultanate of Oman, along with Iraq, played a vital role alongside China in mediating between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Saudi Arabia. The efforts led to a settlement reached between Tehran and Riyadh in March, which was sponsored by China's President Xi Jinping, putting an end to a protracted political dispute between the two regional powers.
The Arab country also mediated the talks between Iran and Washington, resulting in the 2015 nuclear deal, formally known as the JCPOA, which the United States later unilaterally withdrew from. Later, Muscat also facilitated talks between the two parties to help revive the agreement, but efforts so far have failed.
"The visit will also touch on means of promoting cooperation between Oman and Iran in different spheres," the agency said.
Last year, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi made a trip to Muscat, during which multiple economic deals were signed between the two countries.
