Israeli media reported on Monday that an autonomous vehicle belonging to the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) was stolen during a military operation in southern Lebanon, with reports suggesting it is now likely in the hands of hostile elements.
The incident took place last Thursday deep inside Lebanese territory, near the Lebanese border and close to Moshav Dubav in the occupied north. The vehicle, equipped with a machine gun and additional military equipment, was part of a unit operating with two autonomous systems in the area.
The report mentioned that the Israeli occupation forces believed the United Nations had taken possession of the vehicle. However, upon investigation, it was confirmed that UN forces were not involved. Officers later determined that hostile elements likely seized it.
During the operation, one of the autonomous vehicles overturned, requiring a crane for recovery. While troops were engaged in that process, the second vehicle was seen being loaded onto a trailer that then drove further into Lebanon, according to the report.
According to officers cited by Israeli media, commanders from Division 91, responsible for the sector, decided against destroying the stolen vehicle in an airstrike, despite it being heavily armed and containing sensitive equipment.
IOF leadership has not issued an official statement regarding the incident, adding that the loss of the vehicle raises questions over operational security and potential risks if the equipment is repurposed or studied by groups hostile to Israeli activity along the Lebanese border.
Israeli violations of southern Lebanon continue
It is worth mentioning that the IOF forces have carried out over 4,000 violations of the ceasefire with Lebanon since its implementation in November 2024. "Israel" continues to launch airstrikes and land incursions amid continued condemnation by multiple groups in Lebanon.
They have also advanced construction on what were deemed temporary lookout sites in points across the border area in southern Lebanon. Per on-site reporters, IOF forces present at these zones fire live rounds at journalists attempting to report on the construction of these zones.
On Sunday, Al Mayadeen's correspondent in south Lebanon reported multiple airstrikes launched by the IOF targeting the outskirts of the towns of Yaroun, Beit Lif, and Ramia.
Last week, the Lebanese Ministry of Health announced that five people were martyred and ten others wounded in an unprecedented Israeli airstrike on the Masnaa highway in eastern Lebanon. Since the implementation of the ceasefire in November, over 200 people have been killed and over 400 others wounded by Israeli aggression on Lebanon.
