IOF soldiers dismissed over killing of Palestinian-American
An elderly Palestinian-American was gagged, blindfolded and left by Israeli soldiers, suffering a cardiac arrest and dying. The Israeli soldiers involved were dismissed after it was found he had US citizenship.
Israeli occupation forces dismissed two officers, and said they will also reprimand a battalion commander involved in the martyrdom of a Palestinian-American at a checkpoint in the occupied West Bank, according to The Guardian.
80-year-old Omar Abdelmajid Asaad, who lived in Milwaukee for 40 years before choosing to retire in his native village, was martyred on January 12 after Israeli soldiers bound and gagged him and left him on the ground for a period of between 20 minutes and 1 hour. He suffered a cardiac arrest and died shortly after.

His body was discovered by local residents after the soldiers left. An internal IOF investigation said that the soldiers thought Asaad was “asleep and did not try to wake him”. An autopsy found he died from “stress-induced sudden cardiac arrest stemming from external violence”. A US embassy spokesperson said it was “deeply saddened” by Asaad’s death and supported a “thorough investigation into the circumstances of the incident”.
“We continue to support an investigation that is thorough and comprehensive into the circumstances of the incident and we welcome receiving additional information as soon as possible,” said State Department Spokesperson Ned Price.
Asaad’s US citizenship allowed him to receive what hundreds of others could not: more international attention. The IOF martyred 41 Palestinians in 2021 who were not involved in attacking or allegedly attacking Israelis.
