Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on Monday on the sidelines of the emergency Arab-Islamic summit in Doha, convened to address the recent Israeli attack on Qatar. The two leaders discussed strengthening cooperation between Tehran and Beirut, emphasizing respect and mutual interests.
Pezeshkian said Iran seeks to “expand cooperation and enhance relations with Lebanon and other regional states on the basis of respect, shared interests, and the principle of win-win.” He condemned what he called “the aggressive and brutal nature” of the Israeli regime, noting that “its conduct shows it respects no limits or rules.”
He criticized countries that “claim to defend freedom and human rights” yet “remain silent in the face of the killing and starvation of innocents in Gaza, while also providing that entity with military and legal support.”
The Iranian president expressed hope that Tehran and Beirut could “strengthen their ties on the basis of truth and justice.”
For his part, President Aoun said Lebanon seeks “friendly relations with Iran built on respect and mutual interests,” adding that differences of opinion between nations are “natural” and can be overcome through “continuous understanding and cooperation” to broaden bilateral ties.
