Iran condemns UN alleged findings of 'violations' during 2022 riots
The Iranian Foreign Ministry stresses that the West is utilizing UN apparatuses to serve its interests by claiming abuse and violations committed by Iran during the 2022 riots.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani dismissed a recent report by the United Nations Human Rights Council's Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on the Islamic Republic of Iran, labeling it as a tool manipulated by certain regimes to further their "sinister and unlawful goals."
The mission's report, published on Friday, claimed the Iranian security services committed human rights violations during the 2022 riots in Iran.
Kanaani made a statement on Saturday, vehemently rejecting the contents of the report, deeming it riddled with groundless allegations based on inaccurate and biased information. The spokersperson underlined that the report lacked legal credibility, noting that the Iranian government as a whole fundamentally rejects it.
Furthermore, he criticized the mission for being a product of what he called a "ridiculous show of human rights" by Western governments, particularly singling out Germany for its role in establishing and funding the mission in November 2022.
Kanaani argued that the mission's report consists of organized falsifications and lies deliberately aimed at distorting realities.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran considers the report, which has been compiled and engineered by the Zionist regime, the United States, and some Western countries, as a clear example of abuse of the sublime human rights concepts and values for the purpose of pursuing short-sighted political goals," Kanaani said.
He also stressed that the report had no legal acceptability and effect whatsoever.
The Iranian diplomat accused the fact-finding mission of functioning in compliance with the schemes of its German, British, American, and Israeli founders, suggesting that it exploits UN human rights mechanisms to pursue the sinister and illegal objectives of these regimes.
West bothered by Iran security
According to Kanaani, "The founding countries of the so-called fact-finding mission are annoyed about security and stability in Iran and the failure of their intervention in Iran’s domestic affairs during the three months of riots in the country. They want to take revenge on the Iranian nation through publication of such a report."
Kanaani highlighted Iran's commitment to the empowerment of its women and girls, asserting that the country's future would be shaped by its female population, pointing to a special committee formed on the orders of President Ebrahim Raisi to investigate the 2022 unrest, revealing that the committee's final report had been recently submitted.
In response to the UN fact-finding mission's allegations of human rights violations, Kanaani emphasized that the government had undertaken measures in line with its responsibility to protect citizens' rights and law enforcement forces.
Unrest erupted across the nation in September 2022, following the tragic death of a young girl named Mahsa Amini. She had fainted at a police station, as seen on camera, and fell into a coma at a Tehran hospital. Subsequent investigations proved that her death was due to an underlying medical condition, dismissing allegations of police mistreatment.
Iran maintains that the 2022 riots were fueled by foreign-backed elements capitalizing on the incident.
Iran unwavering
Tehran repeatedly asserted that the Iranian people and authorities would not be swayed by Western parties' malicious propaganda and actions when it comes to ensuring public security in the country.
Furthermore, Kanaani reminded Western states of their own records on human rights, characterizing them as countries that regularly engage in severe violence against their citizens, particularly women, as well as minorities, people of color, indigenous populations, and migrants.
Kanaani previously pointed out that the countries condemning and sanctioning Iran are the same countries that consistently fail to muster the courage to genuinely protest or condemn the daily actions of the "child-killing Zionist regime."
Consequently, according to Kanaani, such states have no legitimate grounds to express feigned sympathy for the Iranian people.
