Iran’s Judiciary announced on Wednesday the execution of Mohsen Langarneshin, who was convicted of espionage on behalf of the Israeli Mossad intelligence agency.
Langarneshin was found guilty of collaborating with Mossad and providing both operational and technical support in the 2022 assassination of Colonel Hassan Sayyad Khodaei, a member of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC).
According to The New York Times, "Israel" told the United States that it was responsible for Khodaei's assassination.
Langarneshin was recruited by Mossad in October 2020 and carried out his first operation in January 2021, following a series of training sessions.
Authorities said Langarneshin maintained close coordination with senior Mossad officials and operatives inside Iran.
Charges revealed
His charges included providing logistical, technical, and operational support for an attack on a Defense Ministry-affiliated industrial site in Isfahan; procuring telecommunications and specialized equipment for Mossad agents; purchasing and outfitting vehicles for operational use; transferring funds from Mossad officers to operatives within Iran; and securing safe houses across multiple provinces.
According to the Judiciary, Langarneshin met with high-ranking Mossad officers twice, once in Georgia and once in Nepal, to receive instructions for his missions.
He reportedly confessed to all charges during both the interrogation process and court proceedings.
The latest announcement comes amid ongoing nuclear talks between the United States and Iran over the latter's nuclear program.
Iran has executed numerous individuals accused of collaborating with the Mossad intelligence agency. Many of those cases have involved roles in sabotage operations and targeted assassinations aimed at disrupting Iran’s nuclear program.
Earlier this week, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused "Israel" of attempting to sabotage ongoing nuclear talks between Tehran and Washington.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected any agreement that would allow Tehran to continue uranium enrichment, instead calling for the complete dismantling of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.
