Iran FM condemns US-British airstrikes on Yemen, supports UN efforts
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi holds a meeting with the UN envoy to Yemen during which he discusses foreign aggression on the country.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi expressed strong support for the United Nations' role in improving the humanitarian and political situation in Yemen during a meeting with the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg.
Araqchi condemned what he described as "repeated airstrikes by the United States, Britain, and the Zionist entity on Yemen's infrastructure." He labeled these attacks as "a blatant violation of Yemen's territorial integrity, national sovereignty, international law, and the UN Charter."
The Iranian foreign minister also criticized the broader use of force and disregard for international law by the US and Britain, accusing them of backing the genocide perpetrated by the Zionist entity in Gaza. He warned that these actions pose "an unprecedented threat to regional peace and security, with consequences impacting all countries in the region."
For his part, Grundberg expressed appreciation for Iran's commitment to stability and security in the region, particularly in Yemen. The meeting underscored Iran's stance on the importance of dialogue and international cooperation to address the ongoing crisis.
US-British aggression
The Yemeni capital of Sanaa came on Friday under heavy attack as the US-UK launched their aggression while Yemen's Sabeen Square was filling up to initiate the weekly million-man marches in solidarity with Gaza.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the aggression targeted the vicinity of Sabeen Square in Sanaa, just as popular crowds were filling the area to showcase their support for the Palestinian people and Gaza Strip, against the Israeli occupation.
Moreover, the US-UK aggression launched 12 airstrikes targeting the Harf Sufyan District, in Amran Governorate. The attacks did not result in any human casualties or military damages, Al Mayadeen's correspondent reported. The port of Hodeidah was also targeted with six airstrikes, Yemeni media announced.
Israeli Channel 4 also reported that following the aggression, the Israeli occupation launched an attack on Sanaa. Meanwhile, "Israel's" Kan broadcaster described the attack as the first joint and coordinated attack on Yemen by the United States and "Israel".
Israeli aggression
In December, approximately six Israeli airstrikes hit the Hodeidah port and the Ras Issa oil facility in western Yemen, resulting in the killing of nine people and injuries to several others among the facility’s staff.
The correspondent further noted that Israeli strikes targeted the central Dahban power station in northern Sanaa. Later, he indicated that civil defense teams successfully extinguished the fire at the Dahban station, while efforts continued to put out a blaze at another facility.
Local Yemeni sources confirmed that three airstrikes targeted the power station in the Hezyaz area south of Sanaa.
