Iran FM: Agreement within reach 'if US behaves realistically'
Iran is once again asking the US to make reasonable decisions to come to terms with making an agreement with Iran.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on Monday "if the Americans decide to think realistically and are flexible enough to engage in future talks, making an agreement will not be far from reach."
Iranian Foreign Minister briefed lawmakers on the latest developments of talks on the removal of anti-Iranian sanctions on Monday.
Minister Amir-Abdollahian also said that the lawmakers had told him they are not optimistic about the possibility of reviving JCPOA talks and that the US does not intend to live up to its commitments under the 2015 deal.
Amir-Abdollahian said he reassured lawmakers that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to persist in its efforts to revive the negotiations - so that the Iranian people's inalienable rights are preserved.
He added that it is of the utmost importance that the topic of national interests is brought up in the upcoming negotiations.
“I once again emphasize our intent about reaching a good, strong, and durable agreement. If the Americans decide to think realistically and are flexible enough to engage in future talks, making an agreement will not be far from reach,” Amir-Abdollahian added.
Last month, a round of talks took place in the capital city of Qatar, Doha. However, the US attended the Doha talks with no initiative. The US State Department was cited saying that the indirect talks in Doha were concluded with "no progress made."
Biden's last visit to the West Asia region was expected to restore the JCPOA talks. However, the signing of the so-called "Jerusalem Declaration" only led to disappointment.
Yesterday, it was reported by the Iranian Parliament's National Security Committee that a new round of nuclear negotiations is likely to be held in Vienna soon. But today's announcement of imposing sanctions on six Iranian-related entities by the US treasury on Monday seems to be showing less positive prospects for talks renewal.
