Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani condemned the baseless accusations leveled against Tehran in the final communiqué of the Gulf Cooperation Council's summit of Foreign Ministers (GCC).

In a statement, Kanaani denounced the GCC's final communiqué, which questioned Iran's sovereignty over the three islands in the Gulf.

Kanaani reaffirmed Iran's sovereignty over three Gulf islands, saying the Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa “will always be part of Iran's territory”.

He also cited the "destructive and seditious policies of the US and the Zionist regime," as well as a number of regional states' mistakes made by allowing outsiders to gain a foothold in regional security arrangements, leading to instability in the region.

“It’s a pity that certain member states of the (Gulf Cooperation) Council insist on pinning the blame on others and making hackneyed and boring comments instead of assuming responsibility and rectifying their ineffective and failed policies,” he added.

The top Iranian figure reiterated that regional cooperation without the presence of outsiders is the best policy to resolve crises, not to mention strengthening relations among neighbors and ensuring common stability and security across the region.

Kanaani also welcomed the resumption of diplomatic missions in Tehran by the ambassadors of Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates, as well as the continuation of talks with Saudi Arabia.

He continued by saying, "the Islamic Republic of Iran, as before, emphasizes the necessity for all regional countries to adopt cooperation-oriented stances in order to achieve security, stability, and peace in the Persian Gulf region."

"On the basis of its strategic view and principled policy, the Islamic Republic of Iran has always regarded interaction and cooperation with neighbors as the best solution to regional problems and welcomes positive and constructive initiatives for the expansion of bilateral and regional relations," Kanaani concluded.
