Iranian air defenses were activated in multiple cities early Sunday morning as the Islamic Republic repelled an Israeli aerial attack targeting key locations in and around the capital.
According to an Al Mayadeen correspondent, Iranian air defense systems in western and northern Tehran engaged hostile targets, with additional reports confirming that anti-aircraft fire was launched from Tehran, Karaj, and Isfahan in response to suspected Israeli projectiles.

In eastern Tehran, a residential building in the Narmak neighborhood was struck, resulting in several martyrs and injuries, as reported by local sources on the ground.
Meanwhile, Tasnim News Agency reported that the Israeli occupation targeted a facility belonging to the Iranian Ministry of Defense in the northeastern sector of the capital. While the strike did not cause major structural damage, one administrative building sustained collateral damage, according to Iranian officials.
Airspace closed, projectiles intercepted
In response to the unfolding situation, Iran’s Civil Aviation Authority extended the closure of national airspace until 3 p.m. local time on Sunday, citing security and operational concerns.
Major General Qader Rahimzadeh, commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Base, announced late Saturday that Iran had successfully intercepted and shot down 10 hostile aerial projectiles believed to belong to the Israeli regime.
This comes after Israeli forces reportedly struck the South Pars gas field in southern Iran earlier in the night, igniting fires at the site, according to Fars News Agency.
Weeks-long aggression
The Israeli aggression against Iran is expected to unfold over “weeks, not days,” and is proceeding with implicit backing from the United States, according to both Israeli and White House officials.
An Israeli source told CNN that the Trump administration has not raised objections to the extended timeline during private talks. A senior White House official confirmed that Washington is aware of and quietly supports the ongoing aggression.
When asked how long the conflict might last, the official said it largely depends on Iran’s response, noting, “The Trump administration firmly believes this can be solved by continuing negotiations with the US."
The official added that while the US won’t dictate "Israel’s" actions, adding that it supports its so-called "right to self-defense."
