Iran’s Foreign Ministry has strongly rejected recent media reports claiming that Tehran proposed direct talks with Washington or that a meeting between the presidents of Iran and the United States is imminent, calling the rumors “fabricated and baseless.”
Responding to questions about a flurry of media speculations, including reports of a planned meeting between Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and US President Donald Trump, alleged dissatisfaction with Oman as a mediator, and claims that Iran initiated a proposal for direct talks, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei dismissed all such assertions as entirely false.
"The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs would provide information regarding diplomatic efforts, including indirect Iran-US talks, in an open, professional, and timely way," Baqaei stated.
So far, Iran and the United States have had three rounds of negotiations mediated by Oman.
The fourth round was previously set on May 3 in the Italian capital. However, it was postponed for what Iran characterized as "technical and logistical" reasons, with the newest round set for May 11.
So far, both parties have portrayed their conversations as generally positive, including the most recent round, which was billed as a "constructive" process.
Fourth round of Iran-US talks to be held on May 11 in Oman
The fourth round of talks between Iran and the US on Iran's nuclear program will be held in the Omani capital of Muscat on May 11, Iran's Nour News agency reported on Tuesday, citing sources.
"The fourth round of indirect talks between Iran and the US will be held in Muscat" on Sunday, May 11, the source told the news agency.
Iranian sources told Al Mayadeen that the postponement came in light of the conflicting positions taken by the US administration regarding the talks.
They added that the postponement was due to Washington’s attempt to alter the general framework of the talks, which had been previously agreed upon.
The announcement came shortly after the US imposed new sanctions on entities accused of participating in the alleged illicit trade of Iranian oil and petrochemicals.
