Terrorism is inherent to the Israeli regime, whose survival relies on perpetuating "state terrorism", pointed out Nasser Kanaani, the spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

In his weekly press briefing on Monday, Kanaani emphasized that such acts of terrorism do not weaken the resolve of the resilient Palestinian people in their struggle against the Zionist regime and the liberation of occupied al-Quds.

He added that the assassination of Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh would not yield any results for "Israel" but rather strengthen Palestinian determination, describing Haniyeh's assassination in Tehran as a flagrant violation of international law and norms.

The spokesperson affirmed that Iran reserves the right to defend its national security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, adding that there should be no hesitation in punishing the "adventurous Zionist regime."

"We have taken the necessary political and diplomatic measures, including the preparations to hold an extraordinary meeting of the United Nations Security Council, which was held in cooperation with our friendly countries such as Russia, China, and Algeria," Kanaani confirmed.

In a related context, Kanaani confirmed that a meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah was requested and approved, scheduled for Wednesday at the foreign ministers' level.

"We had correspondence with the secretary-general of the United Nations, the OIC secretary-general, and some international forums and presented our well-founded positions," he said.

The spokesperson added that phone conversations were also held with various foreign officials to express Iran's stance.

Kanaani attributed rising tensions in the region "to the influence of some governments, including the United States, in the implementation of the duties of some international institutions, including the UN Security Council."

The Iranian diplomat reiterated that his country asserts its right to take decisive action in defense of its interests and national security to punish the aggressor Israeli occupation entity and establish deterrence.

"The international community should support the punishment of the aggressor by Iran, which will ensure the security of the region and the world, and of course, it is an action under international law," he stressed.

Jordanian FM's visit to Tehran

Touching on Jordan's Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi's visit to Tehran, Kanaani said it is part of ongoing diplomatic relations and aligns with previous official visits between Iran and friendly countries to address the complicated regional situation, particularly the war on Gaza, aiming to enhance regional security and peace.

The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry accused the US administration of being complicit in the Israeli genocide and war crimes against Palestinians.

He called on the US to adhere to international rules by halting the supply of weapons to "Israel" and stopping its killing machine.

Kanaani pointed out that the Israeli occupation does not act without US coordination and urged Washington to fulfill its responsibilities in this regard.

Iran will not tolerate aggression

He denied any contact with the Israeli occupation, asserting that "we do not need to send a message from anyone to the Zionist regime as we do not consider it legitimate in nature."

"We hold the United Nations Security Council responsible for the recent assassination in Tehran, and we have written to them and requested a meeting," he confirmed.

The Iranian diplomat criticized the Security Council's inaction and reiterated that Iran will act decisively to protect its interests and national security within the framework of international law.

Kanaani made it clear that his country will not compromise on its territorial integrity, national sovereignty, and security and will continue to support the oppressed Palestinian people.

In the same vein, Kanaani further stated that the international community, including the United States and other influential countries, bears responsibility for the Israeli occupation's war crimes and genocide against the Palestinians over the past 10 months.

Elsewhere, he lamented that due to US influence on international organizations, no international laws have been able to halt the Israeli killing machine.

"We believe that grounds should be paved for international mechanisms, including the UN Security Council, to fulfill their duties, and it’s a shame for those who use international bodies as a tool for their political ambitions," Kanaani concluded.
