Iran: UK lacks any moral qualifications to level human rights claims
Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson says the UK is in no position to make baseless claims and raise doubts about the nature of Iran’s nuclear program.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani condemned the "meddlesome and delusional" statements by British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly about the recent developments in Iran, the country’s right to use peaceful nuclear energy, and Tehran's regional role.
Last week, the UK announced that it enforced sanctions on three Iranian military figures and a defense manufacturer over the alleged supply of drones to Russia.
In a statement, Cleverly said that "Iran’s support for Putin’s brutal and illegal war against Ukraine is deplorable," claiming that "this is clear evidence of Iran’s destabilizing role in global security."
In response, Kanaani slammed Cleverly's statements as baseless and come as "part of the hostile political campaign that this country and other European countries are trying to advance against the Islamic Republic of Iran."
According to the Iranian spokesperson, "Britain and some other European countries, which must be answerable for their inhumane measures against the Iranian nation and be held accountable at international circles, undoubtedly lack any moral qualifications to level human rights claims and allegations against the Islamic Republic of Iran."
He pointed out that "instead of leveling repetitious and unfounded allegations against the Islamic Republic of Iran’s role in the region, London would better stop creating divisions in regional countries and collaborating in crimes against humanity by selling fatal arms worth billions of dollars to some regional customers and leave the region’s peace and stability to its own states."
Kanaani stressed that "Iran’s nuclear program has been fully transparent and peaceful," adding that "Britain, which is among the violators of the JCPOA because of acting in line with America, is in no position to make baseless claims and raise doubts about the nature of Iran’s nuclear program."
In a separate context, the Iranian diplomat once again denied British officials' claims about the alleged use of Iranian drones by Russian forces in Ukraine, pointing out that "it is the Western parties that are making a political and peaceful resolution of this conflict more difficult by flowing a huge amount of arms to the scene of this crisis."
Elsewhere in his remarks, Kanaani advised "the rulers in London to use their power to create stability in their own government, pay attention to the widespread demands of the country’s people and end discrimination and oppression against migrants and Muslims instead of leveling accusations against the Islamic Republic of Iran."
It is noteworthy that the Iranian Foreign Ministry had announced sanctions against British entities "due to their intentional actions in supporting terrorism and terrorist groups, promoting and inciting terrorism, violence, and hatred, and violating human rights."
The sanctioned entities' measures have led to "riots, violence and terrorist acts" against the Iranian nation, according to the Ministry, which also reminded the British government of its international commitments to confront terrorism, hatred, and human rights abuse.
