Iranian Ambassador to Baghdad Affirmed Iran's Support for the Elections
Iranian ambassador to Baghdad reports the details of Brigadier General Qaani's meetings with Iraqi officials. He confirmed that Iran supports the legal process of the Iraqi elections.
The Iranian ambassador to Baghdad, Iraj Masjedi, revealed that IRGC Quds Force Commander, Brigadier General Esmail Qaani affirmed to Iraqi parties Iran's support for the legal process of the parliamentary elections that were held on the 10th of October.
During his meeting with Iraqi parties, Qaani called on all Iraqis to exercise self-restraint and be cooperative.
Qaani met with Iraqi President Barham Salih
Brigadier General Qaani had arrived in Baghdad on Sunday, following the failed attempt to assassinate Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi using a drone.
He met with Iraqi President Barham Salih, Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi, and some Iraqi parties.
In a statement to Al-Alam news channel, ambassador Masjedi said that Brigadier General Qaani stressed the importance of handling the objections and appeals to the results of the recent parliamentary elections within the legal framework.
The Iranian ambassador added that Qaani affirmed the need to respect the final results of the elections that will be announced by the Electoral Commission and official institutions in Iraq.
In regard to Al-Kadhimi's assassination attempt, the Iranian ambassador in Baghdad strongly condemned targeting the prime minister's residence and mentioned that Brigadier Qaani called for the punishment of the perpetrators and those involved, according to Iraqi law.
Qaani will continue his visit and head to Iraqi Kurdistan to meet with Kurdish leaders.
