Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian denounced the West for its inaction on police brutality in the United States and Canada, as well as its support for quelling riots in Europe, while labeling the same action in Iran as a crackdown.

In his phone call with EU foreign policy Chief Josep Borrell, Amir-Abdollahian said: “The death of Mahsa Amini is regrettable to all of us. In that regard, an accurate and scientific report has been presented by the Legal Medicine Organization under the aegis of a remarkable number of medical specialists and experts. Meanwhile, a judicial process is underway regarding the case. Of course, this case serves as a pretext for some Western officials.”

The top Iranian diplomat questioned: “what has the West done in the face of hundreds of cases revolving around murder by police of women and children in Canada and the US, in particular?”

“The most violent form of confrontation with riots cannot be seen as a good and acceptable action in Europe while the same action, which takes place within a legal framework in Iran, is counted as a crackdown," he stressed.

During the phone call, Amir-Abdollahian cleared that “peaceful demands have nothing to do with riots, assassinations, arson, and terrorist operations.”

“This is not a land of color or velvet coup d’états. Iran is an anchor of lasting stability and peace in the region,” he tersely stressed.

The Iranian diplomat also advised the Europeans to look at the issue with a realistic approach, stressing on a broader framework for cooperation between the European Union and the Islamic Republic of Iran in view.

The foreign minister emphasized the Islamic Republic's and Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani's role in combating ISIS in Iraq and Syria, securing security in Europe.

“We have defense cooperation with Russia, but our policy on the Ukraine war is against sending weapons to the conflicting sides and support an end to the war and the people’s displacement,” he said.

On his account, Borrell expressed satisfaction with the progress made toward reviving the JCPOA and emphasized the importance of Tehran-IAEA cooperation.

Regarding the prisoner swap agreement between Iran and the United States, he described it as important and a step forward in reaching a deal.

“We have no intention to meddle in the domestic affairs of Iran,” he stressed.

Borrell also referred to some harsh European positions and emphasized the importance of continued cooperation between Iran and the EU.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the top EU diplomat lauded Iran's stance against sending weapons and drones which could be used in the war in Ukraine.

Borrell and Amir-Abdollahian also tackled the latest status of talks aimed at reviving the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.

The two diplomats expressed satisfaction with the latest developments in the talks.

Who is Mahsa Amini?

Mahsa Amini is a young Iranian woman whose case has been exploited by several Western media outlets in order to further promote Iranophobia by fabricating lies and making use of her medical condition that led to her death merely for political purposes.

Mainstream and social media outlets were swarmed with trumped-up news, as some media outlets, mostly Western, claimed that an alleged brutal arrest led to the death of Amini.

The story as it is

Al Mayadeen decided to investigate the topic and get to the bottom of the story. After contacting several official sources in Iran, Al Mayadeen learned that Amini was never assaulted, beaten, or abused, and the proof was CCTV footage that slammed western reports as fake and fabricated.

The incident, recorded by the CCTV, shows a female police officer approaching Amini and pointing at her hijab. Amini and the officer entered into a verbal disagreement, after which the officer turned around and left Amini alone.

At this point, and without any physical altercation taking place between the two - contrary to western media reports which claimed that Amini was brutally beaten - Amini fainted and it was later reported that she fell into a coma. The police officer can be seen rushing to support Amini to prevent her from falling. Amini was then transferred to the hospital for treatment.

The video shows that there was no violence and no beating whatsoever and that not even an arrest was made. Official sources told Al Mayadeen that Amini had a brain tumor and that she has been undergoing treatment for some time prior to the incident. Medical records confirm Amini's multiple visits to the hospital for treatment.

In this context, and despite the overwhelming proof that refutes the western media's claims, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi refused to remain silent and ordered the Minister of Interior in Iran to launch an investigation with urgency and accuracy into the incident and to submit a full report of the results.

Later, the Director General of Forensic Medicine in Tehran Province said that there are no traces of beating or wounds on the head and face of the late Iranian Mahsa Amini.

Following the incident, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi called Amini's family, confirming that he had ordered the incident to be investigated carefully.
