Iran's foreign minister says that a new page was opened in the relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the UAE.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian hailed the opening of a new chapter in Iran-UAE relations, especially after appointing Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan as the country's new president.

Following his meeting with bin Zayed in Abu Dhabi on Monday, Amir-Abdollahian Tweeted that “A new page was opened in the relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the UAE."

“We warmly shake hands with our neighbors. The warmth of the neighbors' relations disappoints the enemies of the region,” he added.

Amir-Abdollahian traveled Monday to the UAE to offer condolences on the death of the Gulf country's president Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, as Tehran welcomed the appointment of the Persian Gulf state’s new ruler.

Press TV reported that Amir-Abdollahian's trip was the highest-level visit by an Iranian official to the UAE in recent months.

On Monday, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi congratulated Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan on becoming the UAE's new president, expressing hope for the expansion of the bilateral relations between Tehran and Abu Dhabi.
