Iranian FM: Tehran-Cairo ties beneficial to both nations
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian believes expanding relations between Tehran and Cairo is in the interest of both countries.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian noted that increasing negotiations between Egypt and Iran is in both countries' interests, despite the fact that Iran has had no direct conversations with the Egyptian side thus far.
Amir-Abdollahian discussed the most significant accomplishments of his journey to Syria on Sunday.
Iran's Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, arrived in the Syrian capital of Damascus at the head of a delegation on Saturday.
The top diplomat met with Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad and was received by his Syrian counterpart Faisal Mekdad upon his arrival at the airport.
The Iranian top diplomat indicated that he had a two-hour chat with Syria's President regarding numerous regional concerns and Tehran-Damascus ties.
"One of the most important achievements of this trip was the follow-up of the agreements made during Mr. Assad's recent visit to Tehran and the talks with the president of our country," he stated.
Amir-Abdollahian stated that one of the key subjects covered during his trip was the likelihood of Turkish military activities in Syria and that he raised the same problem with the Turkish side during his recent visit to Turkey.
The Iranian Foreign Minister added that Tehran "rejects the way of war and tries to resolve the crisis between the two countries through political means."
Iran had previously voiced its refusal of Turkey's military incursion into Syria and said it considered such military action to be "a violation of the territorial integrity and national sovereignty" of Syria.
