Iranian FM: Tehran rejects unilateral sanctions on Iran, Russia
Iran's FM and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov discuss their excellent bilateral relations which will have an impact on the new order in international relations.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said that his country "rejects unilateral sanctions and bans against Russia."
During his meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Tunxi, China, on Wednesday, Amir-Abdollahian reiterated the excellent relationship Iran and Russia share.
He told Lavrov that he was updated on the progress achieved in the political talks on the Ukrainian events, adding he would want to hear from him on the latest developments.
As for Lavrov, he noted that they "look for comprehensive cooperation with Iran at all levels and consider the relations with Tehran as having a special importance," adding that "Russia and Iran's bilateral relations have an impact on the new order in international relations."
In a press conference alongside his Iranian counterpart, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, in Moscow on March 15, Lavrov said, "I am confident that the prospects are even more impressive, considering, among things, that we have entered the homestretch on an agreement to resume the Comprehensive Plan of Action to resolve the situation around the Iranian nuclear program.”
Russia's Foreign Minister stressed that the two countries are "preparing new documents designed to formalize" a new level of cooperation.
Furthermore, Lavrov stated that despite "well-known factors" aimed at putting pressure on the two countries, "our trade turnover is steadily increasing at a record pace; it increased by nearly 80% last year, surpassing $4 billion."
Lavrov also hailed Tehran for its "objective position" on Russia's special military operation in Ukraine.
The Russian FM emphasized that cooperation in international affairs has always been a cornerstone of Moscow-Tehran relations.
On his account, Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian said that his discussions with Lavrov would tackle the implementation of agreements reached between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi during the latter’s visit to Moscow, as well as the situation in Ukraine and the new developments on the regional and international fronts.
