Iranian Parliament Grants Confidence to the Government of Ibrahim Raisi
The candidates were subject to a close examination to determine their adherence to the required criteria.
The Iranian Parliament granted confidence today to all the proposed ministers in the upcoming government of President Ebrahim Raisi, with the exception of the minister of education.
In a public session, the Iranian president thanked the Islamic Consultative Assembly for reviewing the qualifications of the proposed ministers, saying that this is "a display of democracy, where deputies examine the qualifications of candidates with interest and sensitivity."
Criteria
Among others, these were the criteria upon which the Parliament approved the candidates:
· Competence
· Experience
· Democracy
· Corruption battling
· Honesty with the people
What’s next for the new government?
Raisi’s election came under strenuous years of a maximum pressure campaign by the Trump administration to force Iran to comply with a new set of conditions Washington wants to add to the JCPOA.
As the Vienna talks are about to be resumed, Raisi’s government has promised to preserve the national interests of Iran as well as fight the rampage of COVID-19, made worse by US sanctions that forbade the entrance of medical supplies.
Perhaps the biggest challenge awaiting the new government is its handling of the economic situation, which has been particularly damaged by the sanctions.
Raisi previously vowed to put the improvement of the Iranian economy front and center of his government's work.
