Ahmadian previously served as the head of the Strategic Center of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi issued on Monday a decree that stipulates appointing Ali Akbar Ahmadian as the new secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), replacing Ali Shamkhani who was appointed to the post by former president Hassan Rouhani in 2013.
According to the state-run Iranian news agency IRNA, Ahmadian previously served as the head of the Strategic Center of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).
Nour News, which is affiliated with the SNSC, mentioned that Ahmadian holds a Ph.D. in strategic management and is known as one of the most respected figures in Iran in national security matters.
The newly appointed SNSC secretary is also an official member of the Expediency Council as per a decree by Iranian leader Sayyed Ali Khamenei, IRNA indicated. Raisi thanked Shamkhani for his service.
