Iraq denounced Iran's attack on Erbil as a breach of Iraqi sovereignty, a statement by the Iraqi foreign ministry read.
Early Tuesday, the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps in Iran announced it targeted "the headquarters of terrorist groups in the region with ballistic missiles." According to the IRGC statement, the attack came in response to "the terrorist crimes recently committed by Iran’s enemies."
In a subsequent statement, the Revolutionary Guard confirmed that it had targeted "one of the main headquarters of the Israeli Mossad in the Kurdistan region of Iraq." This action was stated to be a response to the Israeli occupation entity's assassination of leaders within the Revolutionary Guard and the Axis of Resistance.
Responding to the events, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry condemned the "Iranian aggression on the city of Erbil". The statement said that "the Iraqi government considers such behavior an aggression against the sovereignty of Iraq and the security of the Iraqi people. This is an insult to good neighborliness and a violation of the security of the region."
Iraq, according to the statement, plans to take legal action against Iran by filing a complaint at the UN Security Council.
Iranian ballistic missile crosses 1,200 km in first
In the same context, "Israel's" Kan TV correspondent commented on Iran's ballistic missile launch that targeted northwestern Syria saying the missiles "covered a distance of 1,200 km."
Elsewhere, the correspondent noted that this was "an unprecedented event," while Israeli media stated that this was the first time that an Iran-launched missile covered such a great distance.
The IRGC had identified and destroyed, according to their statement, "the gathering places of the commanders and main elements involved in the recent terrorist operations, especially ISIS, in the occupied territories of Syria, through the launch of a number of ballistic missiles."
The attack on Iraqi Kurdistan also hit a Mossad spy base, according to the IRGC.
