Al Mayadeen correspondent reported that the Israeli Occupation Court held, on Wednesday, at 8:30 am, in “Maasiyahu” prison in the central city of Ramla, the second session to review the possibility of an early release for cancer-stricken Palestinian prisoner novelist and activist Walid Daqqa,  who has been deprived of his freedom for more than 37 years.

Our correspondent added that Prisoner Walid Daqqa's case was transferred to Parole Board, which looks into life imprisonment cases, despite the prisoner having already finished his sentence.

Daqqa is currently lying in the hospital, cuffed to his bed, and is in a very critical condition. Concurrently,  a vigil was staged in front of the prison in support of the cancer-stricken prisoner, calling for his immediate release.

Earlier, our correspondent reported heavy political pressure being exercised to transfer Daqqa's file to Special Parole Board.

Walid's wife Sanaa Salameh told Al Mayadeen: "We are waiting for the court’s decision, and whatever this decision is, we will appeal it immediately.”

Sanaa noted that public opinion that calls for the release of Walid is being created against the settlers' hostile voices, insisting on the demand to apply steady pressure on the occupation to release and treat the Palestinian prisoner.

Her remarks came in response to a settlers' rally which attacked Walid's family and chanted slogans that calls for the death of Walid and his family by cancer.

The Israeli authority deliberately subjects the prisoner to the policy of systematic medical negligence which is an attempt at his assassination, she added. “We don't have much time, and the prisoner must be released immediately," she concluded.

Salameh told Palestine Today that her husband is not receiving the necessary treatment despite his critical health condition after being exposed to contamination during surgery due to medical negligence.

She also noted that a campaign has been launched calling for the release of Walid on social media platforms with the hashtag #Free_Walid_Daqqah.

Daqqa has been detained since 1986 and was sentenced to life imprisonment for resisting the occupation. His sentence was later decreased to 37 years. In 2018, two years were added to his sentence, and a few years ago, his wife, Sanaa Salameh, was able to give birth to their daughter, Milad, after smuggling Daqqa's sperm from prison.

It is worth noting that there are 700 ill Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons suffering from several diseases, including 24 prisoners suffering from cancer and tumors of varying degrees.
