The Israeli army has confirmed that since the beginning of the Israeli aggression on Gaza on October 7, 2023, a total of 900 soldiers have been killed and more than 6,200 others wounded.
According to the report, the dead include 295 reservists and 154 career troops. The figure covers 311 soldiers killed on October 7–8 during the Al-Aqsa Flood operation and ensuing clashes along the Gaza border. Since then, another 589 soldiers have been killed, 456 of them in the ground invasion of Gaza.
The Golani Brigade has reportedly suffered the heaviest losses, with 114 dead since the war began.
The military said 6,213 soldiers have been wounded since October 7: 925 seriously, 1,540 moderately, and 3,748 lightly. Of these, 2,883 were injured during the ongoing ground offensive in Palestine. 10 soldiers remain in the hospital in critical condition.

On Sunday, August 31, Israeli media reported renewed battles between Palestinian Resistance fighters and the Israeli army in Gaza City’s al-Zaytoun neighborhood, where one soldier was confirmed dead and nine others wounded. Reports also suggested that four soldiers may have been captured during the clashes, while helicopters were seen evacuating troops under heavy fire.
Military experts described the developments as a significant tactical setback that undermines the Israeli narrative regarding its campaign against Hamas and the wider Palestinian resistance.
Discrepancies in reported figures and Al-Aqsa Flood impact
The Israeli military has been repeatedly accused of concealing the true scale of its casualties to maintain morale and project an image of strength.
In February, Israel’s Chief of Staff, Eyal Zamir, admitted there was a significant discrepancy between the official figures and the actual losses. He revealed that the number of dead and wounded soldiers was much higher than previously disclosed, noting that at least 5,942 “bereaved families” had been registered since October 7, some of them with more than one family member killed.
