An Israeli court announced on Tuesday the extension of the detention of Sanaa Daqqa, the widow of martyred Palestinian prisoner Walid Daqqa, until Thursday.
In response, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club condemned the decision, describing it as "another chapter in the historic campaign of revenge and persecution" against the Daqqa family.
This marks the second time that the Israeli occupation court has extended Sanaa Daqqa’s detention. Just days earlier, the Haifa court had ruled to keep her in custody until Tuesday.
Sanaa Salameh is the widow of Walid Daqqa, a prominent figure in the Palestinian prisoners' movement, who passed away in April of last year. He had spent 38 years in Israeli prisons, enduring continuous systematic torture, medical neglect, and harsh punitive conditions.
Despite his death, the occupation authorities continue to withhold his body in refrigerated storage, refusing to release it to his family, a move widely criticized by human rights organizations as a violation of basic human dignity.
PPC condemns Sanaa's detention
The Palestinian Prisoners Club has condemned the decision by an occupation court in Haifa to extend the detention of activist Sanaa Salameh, the widow of martyr Walid Daqqa, until Tuesday. The organization described the ruling as part of a long-standing campaign of revenge and systematic political repression waged by "Israel" against Walid Daqqa and his family.
Israeli occupation forces on Thursday evening arrested Salameh while she was returning from Ramallah to the Palestinian territories occupied since 1948.
According to the statement, the extension of Salameh’s detention comes amid heightened incitement efforts targeting her. One such instance was a recent call by extremist minister Itamar Ben-Gvir to strip her of her citizenship and deport her from occupied Palestine.
The club emphasized that this incitement is part of a broader policy of targeting families of Palestinian martyrs and prisoners.
