An Israeli airstrike targeting a vehicle in Khirbet Selem, in southern Lebanon, killed one citizen and injured another, the Lebanese Ministry of Health announced on Saturday.
Al Mayadeen’s correspondent confirmed that an Israeli drone targeted a vehicle in the area on the outskirts of the towns of al-Jumeijmeh and al-Sawwaneh in southern Lebanon, killing one person.
"Israel" has maintained periodic strikes on Lebanese territory since a ceasefire agreement came into effect on November 27, 2024.
Although the Israeli occupation military was initially set to complete its withdrawal from Lebanon by January, it was granted an extension until February 18. However, it has maintained a military presence at five locations it considers "strategic".
On Friday evening, the Israeli occupation military launched a series of intense airstrikes on various villages and towns in southern Lebanon, targeting Zibqin Valley and the area between Ayta al-Shaab and Beit Yahoun.
Additionally, the occupation carried out airstrikes near the Litani River on the outskirts of al-Ayshiyyah, in the valley between the towns of Ansar and al-Zrariyeh, as well as in the areas of Tibnah near al-Baysariyah and al-Hamdaniyah between Kfar Roummane and Aazzeh.
A couple of days ago, the Lebanese Army Command stated that "the Israeli occupation continues its violations of Lebanon's sovereignty by land, sea, and air, with the latest incidents including a series of attacks targeting civilians in the south and the Bekaa region in eastern Lebanon, in addition to its ongoing occupation of Lebanese territory and repeated breaches of the land borders."
In its statement, the Lebanese Army warned that "Israel's persistent aggressions threaten the country's stability and negatively impact regional security," emphasizing that such actions "are in complete violation of the ceasefire agreement."
The army also announced that its military units "continue to facilitate the return of residents to the southern areas by clearing unexploded ordnance, removing debris, and reopening roads."
It confirmed that it is monitoring the situation and taking necessary measures in coordination with the Quintet Committee overseeing the ceasefire agreement and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
