The Cuban Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, Pedro Luis Pedroson Cuesta expressed his regret at the Security Council's inability to put an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestine, describing the occupation as one of the greatest assaults committed against a people in the last century.
Pederson denounced Washington's policy during the open quarterly debate of the Security Council on the Middle East, calling the US's policies obstacles in the work of the Security Council in order to achieve a comprehensive and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue, in addition to the immunity that the United States grants "Israel."
The ambassador denounced the double standards, selectivity, and political manipulation that affect international peace and security, singling out the United States, which designates itself as a defender of the principles of the United Nations Charter, peace and security, while also masking the occupation's heinous crimes against the Palestinians.

He stressed that for decades, the international community has called for an end to the illegal Israeli occupation, but the situation is only getting worse, and "Israel" continues to illegally trespass and expand on the occupied Palestinian lands.
The Cuban ambassador renewed his country's support for the "two-state solution," which he believes would allow the Palestinians to exercise their right to self-determination and establish an independent and sovereign state within the 1967 borders with East al-Quds as its capital, in addition to the return of refugees.
He concluded by renewing his country's demand for the occupation to withdraw from the Syrian Golan and from all occupied Arab lands, while also calling for an immediate and unconditional end to the arbitrary and illegal coercive measures that were imposed by the United States against Arab states.
