Israeli remarks on nuclear weapons 'unacceptable, provocative': Moscow
Russia believes that the idea of a nuclear-free zone in the Middle East has to be considered immediately in light of the Israeli official's remarks.
According to Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova on Thursday, Russia views Israeli "Heritage" Minister Amihai Eliyahu's remarks regarding the potential use of a nuclear weapon in the Gaza Strip as "provocative" and "unacceptable".
Days ago, after Eliyahu said nuking the Gaza Strip is on the table in light of the ongoing aggression on the Palestinian people, Zakharova announced that this confirmed that "Israel" owned a nuclear arsenal.
When asked to comment about the remarks made by Eliyahu, Zakharova remarked that such statements were "noteworthy" for multiple reasons.
First, she noted that the statements amounted to a nuclear threat to the "whole civilian population of the Gaza Strip."
She added that "Israel" has in the past been ambiguous regarding nuclear weapons and the statements not only confirm their presence but also "show readiness to consider its use in totally inadequate situations."
Russia believes that the idea of a nuclear-free zone in the Middle East has to be considered immediately in light of the Israeli official's remarks, adding that "Israel" has "torpedoed" the idea.
Speaking to Solovyov Live on Tuesday, Zakharova underscored that "this raised a huge number of questions. Question number one — it turns out that we are hearing official statements about the presence of nuclear weapons? The following questions that everyone has — where are the international organizations, where is the IAEA [the International Atomic Energy Agency], where are the inspectors?"
In this same regard, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian called on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), on November 6, to take action toward the nuclear disarmament of "Israel" after an Israeli minister acknowledged the potential use of a nuclear bomb in the Gaza Strip.
To make matters worse, Eliyahu also underlined that he was staunchly opposed to any humanitarian aid making its way to Gaza, a statement which he backed by saying, "We wouldn't hand the Nazis humanitarian aid."
"There is no such thing as uninvolved civilians in Gaza."
