Israeli soldier kills 2 of his unit's officers in Jordan Valley
The shooting took place as a result of the IOF's attempt to arrest a "suspicious figure".
According to the Israeli occupation forces (IOF), two Israeli commando officers were killed in the Jordan Valley while undergoing training in the area. The cause behind their deaths is an alleged accidental fire stemming from misidentification.
The spokesman for the IOF, Avichay Adraee, claimed that "Two Israeli soldiers were killed tonight during their guard work near a military camp in the Jordan Valley as a result of friendly fire (mutual shooting as a result of miscalculation). The two soldiers' families were briefed and the conditions are being investigated."
According to Yedioth Ahoronoth, a soldier's miscalculations led the officers to their death. After a day of training in the Nabi Musa district, the two officers patrolled around the camp and identified a suspicious figure. What was initially meant to be an arrest turned into a shooting: A third party, from the same unit, witnessed from afar the scene and thought that he will be targeted, thus opening fire at both officers and ending up killing them.
