Jordan's King Abdullah II warned that the "Israeli escalations" in the occupied al-Quds and West Bank could lead to chaos and an explosion in the region, stressing the need for a ceasefire in Gaza.

His comments came during a phone call with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, where he also expressed appreciation for Canada’s efforts in delivering aid to the Strip.

The Jordanian king also emphasized “the need for stepping up efforts to guarantee the delivery of sufficient and sustainable humanitarian and relief aid to Gaza," according to the Royal Hashemite Court.

Abdullah: UNRWA plays important role in Gaza relief

Last Saturday, Western donors decided to cut funding for the United Nations Palestinian refugee agency UNRWA aid organization after "Israel" raised allegations of collaboration of 12 of the organization's staffers with the Resistance.

The United States and Canada were the first to lead the move, followed by the UK, Japan, Australia and Germany among over 12 other European countries.

UNRWA warned that if its funding is not resumed, it will not be able to continue operations in Gaza and across the region beyond the end of February. Meanwhile, UN Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said the United Nations lacks an alternative strategy to secure funding for UNRWA.

King Abdullah reaffirmed “the important role of UNRWA in providing relief to over 2 million Palestinians in Gaza, which requires maintaining support for the agency to enable it to continue providing its vital services in accordance with its UN mandate.”

Elsewhere in the conversation, he reiterated the need to reach peace based on the "two-state solution" concept, adding that the region will not see stability unless a resolve to the "conflict" is reached.

In its latest report, The Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza confirmed that the Israeli occupation has killed 27,019 people and injured 66,139 others since it launched its war on the Strip last October.

The ministry also warned that thousands of people are still under the rubble, while martyred and injured Palestinians remain unattended to in several areas around Gaza, where the Israeli occupation has prevented emergency workers from carrying out their missions.
