Kremlin: Putin, Raisi discuss interaction in regional affairs
The Kremlin confirms that Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on Thursday.
According to the Kremlin, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on Thursday via phone, detailing a discussion that included expanding their interaction in regional and global affairs.
The Kremlin statement detailed how discussions centered around Iran's participation as a member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, as well as the possibility of joining BRICS.
In early August, Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov revealed that the expansion of BRICS would strengthen the group, as it prepares to examine admissions of new nations including Argentina, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

The Presidents also expressed their satisfaction with the level of cooperation between the two nations, expressing their determination to strengthen ties further in commerce, energy, transportation, logistics, and numerous other sectors.
Putin also expressed his condolences to Raisi following a terror attack on August 13 where one person was killed and eight were injured at the Shah Cheragh shrine in Shiraz, south of Iran.
In March, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian lauded his country's growing cooperation with Moscow, most notably in the fields of business, politics, culture, tourism, security, and defense.
Russia has also welcomed past Iranian positions on the Ukrainian war and its interest in a peaceful resolution of the crisis.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry in late February expressed its support for China's 12-point document titled "China's Position on the Political Settlement of the Ukraine Crisis", which emphasized Beijing’s respect for the sovereignty of all countries, calling for the cessation of hostilities and resuming negotiations between Moscow and Kiev.
Meanwhile, Washington asked Iran to stop its alleged drone sales to Russia as talks continue between the United States and Tehran to reach a "broader unwritten understanding" on the prisoner swap announced last week, the Financial Times reported on Wednesday citing sources.
The Russian leader is also eyeing improving relations with other Arab nations in the Middle East as he disclosed in June that relations between Russia and the United Arab Emirates are developing successfully, stressing that they are mutually beneficial to both countries.
