Iran, Russia: To resume Iranian Nuclear Deal in original balanced form
The Russian FM and his Iranian counterpart call for resuming the nuclear agreement in its original form, stressing that this is the only correct way to guarantee the rights and interests of all parties to the comprehensive agreements.
Russian FM Sergey Lavrov and his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian expressed their support for the resumption of the 2015 nuclear agreement in its original form, according to a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The statement mentioned that the Russian and Iranian top diplomats have held a telephone conversation, during which they “focused on the situation around the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on Iran's nuclear program and the prospects for resuming the Vienna negotiations on the JCPOA.”
“The parties called for restoring the nuclear deal in its original balanced form, approved by the United Nations Security Council. They confirmed that it was the only way to ensure the rights and interests of all parties to the comprehensive agreement," the statement said.
In addition, Lavrov and Amir-Abdollahian discussed International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director-General Rafael Grossi's upcoming visit to Tehran, as well as the situations in Afghanistan and the South Caucasus.
During the phone call, Lavrov said that all parties should return to the nuclear agreement and that Washington should first fulfill its commitments and then stop its measures that continue to sabotage the course of the nuclear agreement.
For his part, Amir-Abdollahian praised Russia's ‘constructive and positive positions on the nuclear file,’ and said that advancing the negotiations rapidly depends on the European and American abstention from making demands outside the framework of the agreement and the adoption of a realistic and constructive approach.
He stressed that "Iran will pursue its demands vigorously during the upcoming negotiations," stressing that "if the United States returns to its commitments, Iran too will abide by all its commitments stipulated in the nuclear agreement."
As per the 2015 agreement between Iran and six major countries, Tehran reduced its uranium enrichment program in exchange for lifting the sanctions imposed by the United States, the United Nations, and the European Union.
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said on Thursday that his country will not back down on the demands of its people during the nuclear negotiations, which will resume on November 29 in Vienna.
