Lavrov: Russia ready for talks on resolving Ukraine crisis
During a phone call with his Turkish counterpart, Russia's FM stresses his country's readiness for close interaction to quickly find a sustainable solution to the Ukrainian crisis.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu that Russia was ready to work closely with any constructive party to resolve the crisis in Ukraine, the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed Saturday.
"In the course of detailed discussion of the current events in Ukraine and the region in general, Lavrov extensively informed his colleague about the special military operation in Donbass that Russian Armed Forces are carrying out with people's militias of Donetsk People's Republic and Lugansk People's Republic in accordance with the decisions of Russia's leadership," the ministry said after a phone call between Lavrov and Cavusoglu.
During the call, Lavrov stressed "Russia's readiness for close interaction with all constructive parties to quickly find a sustainable solution to the Ukrainian crisis."
It is noteworthy that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said at a meeting of the ruling party that he had invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to Turkey to discuss de-escalation in Ukraine, Turkish media reported Saturday.
At a meeting of the ruling party on the situation in Ukraine, Erdogan said Turkey should stand for peace, according to the TGRT Haber national broadcaster.
"In a telephone conversation with Mr. Putin, I invited him to Turkey to normalize the situation," Erdogan was quoted as saying by the broadcaster.
Erdogan & Zelensky discuss Ukraine situation
Earlier, the Turkish President discussed the situation in Ukraine with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky by phone, the office of the Turkish leader confirmed.
"The call addressed Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine and the latest developments," the president's office said on Twitter.
Erdogan stressed that Ankara was "working for an immediate declaration of ceasefire in a bid to prevent further loss of life and harm to Ukraine," the office added.
