The formation of three committees by Lebanon to resolve outstanding issues with the Israeli occupation comes in continuation of the implementation of UN Resolution 1701, Al Mayadeen reported as per its sources.
According to details provided to Al Mayadeen, the committees are inseparable from Resolution 1701, and do not entail direct negotiations between Lebanon and "Israel".
The committees are not a forefront for normalizing ties with the occupation, the sources affirmed, stressing that all rumors are incorrect.
They, however, aim to resolve three main unsettled issues: Matters related to the occupied Palestinian-Lebanese border, "disputed" sites along the border that have been an outstanding issue since the 2006 war, and the five occupied positions after the recent war. The issue of Lebanese prisoners held in "Israel" will also be examined.
Lebanese Red Cross receives four Lebanese detainees from Israelis
This comes after four Lebanese detainees captured during the Israeli war on Lebanon were released on Tuesday, with a fifth set to be freed on Wednesday.
The four freed detainees were released through the Ras al-Naqoura crossing, after being captured in the past three months, and the Lebanese Red Cross received them and transported them to the Lebanese-Italian Hospital in Tyre.
The five detainees were arrested by Israeli forces in January and February of this year, making their capture a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement, and their release was secured following a meeting of the committee overseeing the agreement’s implementation in Ras al-Naqoura earlier today.
"Israel" is still holding eight Lebanese citizens prisoner, one of whom is a civilian and the remaining seven are Hezbollah fighters.
The Lebanese Armed Forces announced on March 10 that one of its soldiers, who was dressed in civilian clothing, had been captured by the Israeli occupation forces after contact with him was lost.
Investigations later revealed that Israeli troops had opened fire on him in the outskirts of Kfashouba, wounding him before taking him into custody and transporting him to occupied Palestinian territories on March 9, according to a statement released by the Lebanese Army.
