Moscow “Closely Following” Arrest of Russian Nationals in Turkey
Moscow assures that the Russian embassy has formally requested to obtain the necessary clarifications.
The Russian Foreign Ministry in Moscow announced on Friday that it is closely following the arrest of several Russian nationals in Turkey.
In a statement, the ministry assured that the situation - around the detention and the subsequent arrest of several Russian citizens - is being closely watched, stressing that Russian foreign missions have formally communicated with the Turkish side to attain the necessary clarifications.
The relevant inquiries, according to the Ministry, were sent through the Russian Embassy in Ankara, as well as the consulates in Istanbul and Antalya.
"We are in contact with the Turkish authorities to clarify all the circumstances around this case. We look forward to receiving more information from our Turkish colleagues as soon as possible," the ministry concluded.
Last week, Turkish authorities arrested four Russian citizens, one Ukrainian citizen, and one Uzbek national on charges of "military and political espionage".
