Muhjat Al-Quds condemns Israeli decision to postpone Adnan trial
The Palestinian Muhjat Al-Quds prisoners association says the Israeli occupation postponing the trial of prisoner Khadr Adnan was the equivalent of the death penalty.
The Israeli occupation postponed on Tuesday the trial of hunger-striking prisoner Sheikh Khadr Adnan until May 29, Palestinian media reported.
The Muhjat Al-Quds prisoners affairs association saw the Israeli court's decision as equivocal to the death penalty. The court's decision "completely neglects his hunger strike, which has been ongoing for 59 days, in light of a very critical health condition."
Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement official Sheikh Khader Adnan is continuing his open hunger strike for the 59th day in rejection of his arbitrary detention as his health condition deteriorates exponentially on daily basis.
The Muhjat Al-Quds prisoners affairs association revealed that the prisoner is being kept in the Ramleh prison clinic in very harsh circumstances while the Israeli occupation is ignoring his rightful demands to end his arbitrary detention and grant him his freedom.
Prisoner Khader Adnan said in a letter obtained by the association that his health condition was critical, as he has begun feeling tightness in his chest and dizziness whenever he moves, especially when standing up, and he is forced to lie on his back due to the severe fatigue he is experiencing. Furthermore, the letter revealed that he is vomiting stomach acid and cannot stand on his feet.
On Wednesday, the Foundation held the Israeli occupation fully responsible for the life of the prisoner due to its procrastination in responding to his just demands for an end to his arbitrary detention.
It also appealed to all institutions working in the field of human rights, led by the International Committee of the Red Cross and the United Nations Human Rights Council, to intensify their efforts to save Adnan's life and to put pressure on the Israeli occupation to release him before it is too late.
Adnan is considered the leader of the Battle of the Empty Stomachs against the policy of administrative detention in occupation prisons. The occupation released him on November 13, 2018, and on October 29, 2018, he stopped his hunger strike after 58 days, and his family considered this a "third victory for him."
Adnan launched a fourth hunger strike after his 2021 arrest; He was liberated 25 days into his hunger strike, winning his fourth battle against the occupation.
The Palestinian prisoner had sent a letter to the people of Gaza last week, which read:
My health condition is constantly deteriorating, and since yesterday, my hunger strike has entered a critical stage; I began vomiting stomach acid, and my dizziness and imbalance increased significantly. I am unable to move without a wheelchair, and when I stand sometimes, I feel very dizzy and fear collapsing to the ground. I feel uncomfortable drinking water and suffer from a lack of sleep, especially at night. I suffer from back pain, and my weight has decreased significantly.
My beloved, prideful family in Gaza, I salute you and hail you from prison and amid my hunger strike as you stand in solidarity with your loving son and brother who pales in comparison with your great sacrifices[...]
Palestinian prisoner,
Khader Adnan
For more than 50 days, the Israeli occupation's prison administration has refused to provide Adnan with clothes, as he is still wearing the same clothes he had on when he was arrested, the statement highlighted, adding that the prisoner has not showered since the day of his arbitrary arrest.
Adnan's wife told Al Mayadeen last week that her husband refused to undergo medical examinations. The detainee's lawyer, who visited him recently, described his health condition as "very bad".
His wife added that her husband "is freezing in a cramped insect-infected cell, with a closed window, and suffering from constant harassments and pressure aimed to stop his strike and to undergo medical examinations."
