No top US official managed to get a 50% approval rating: Poll
US leaders' public approval rating kept plunging since 2021 up till the most recent poll round-up concluded by December 20, 2023.
A new poll by Gallup revealed that none of the top US leaders managed to attain an approval rating of 50% or more.
In an unsurprising revelation, US leaders' public approval rating kept plunging since 2021 up till the most recent poll round-up concluded by December 20, 2023.
Chief Justice John Roberts received the highest approval rating, reaching 48%, based on a December 1-20 poll. However, his rating has declined by 12 points since 2021, from 60%, a shift that occurred before the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.
Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell also experienced a double-digit decline, dropping from 53% to 43% in approval since 2021.
President Biden's approval rating stands at 39%, down from 43% in 2021, mostly approved by Democrats and independents, but barely any Republicans.
Vice President Kamala Harris recorded a similar score and similar decline as Biden, standing at a 40% approval rating, 4 points lower than it initially was in 2021.
In terms of congressional leaders, House Speaker Mike Johnson received a 40% approval rating. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell had the lowest approval rating at 27%, down from 34% in 2021. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Rep. Kevin McCarthy had identical 46% approval ratings. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer's approval rating decreased from 44% to 41%.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Attorney General Merrick Garland both received similar approval ratings, with Blinken at 45% and Garland at 44%.
The 'lesser of two evils' all over again
With such ratings, worries about the elections could emerge.
Right now, the two runner-ups for the elections are Joe Biden and Donald Trump. Both presidents have been widely disliked and notorious for mismanagement and entanglements in fraud, and most recently, Biden has been the center of an impeachment case.
According to a new DailyMail/J.L Partners poll, six in ten people, including almost one-third of Democrats, believe Joe Biden should not run for president in 2024.
In another worrying indicator for Biden, over half of Democrats believe it is still possible for the 81-year-old to be replaced as his party's nominee.
Sixty percent believe Biden should not run for re-election, 34% believe he should, and 6% have no view.
The results are preceded by a poll released last week that revealed Biden is trailing behind former President Donald Trump despite the latter's legal trouble as he fights a slew of court lawsuits.
Meanwhile, an appeals court in Colorado on December 20 ruled that Donald Trump cannot appear on the state's presidential primary ballot because of his involvement in the attack on the Capitol in January 2021.
Despite that, Trump is ahead of Biden by four points in the most recent Dailymail.com/J.L. Partners survey.
According to the statistics, the former President won over independent voters, while Biden lost support within his party and among women.
Biden has been suffering due to his stance on the war on Gaza, particularly with younger voters, women, and Black Americans.
