Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that the occupation's prison service has received orders to release Palestinian detainees as part of the ongoing exchange deal tied to the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
According to the newspaper, the process of transferring detainees from five Israeli prisons to designated release facilities is already underway in preparation for the implementation of the deal.
The report revealed that the exchange includes the release of approximately 250 Palestinian detainees serving life sentences, in addition to 1,700 detainees from Gaza who were arrested following the events of October 7, 2023.
At midnight between Thursday and Friday, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the occupation government had officially ratified the agreement, which includes a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and a prisoner exchange deal with the Palestinian resistance.
On Wednesday evening, October 9, Khalil al-Hayya, Hamas leader in the Gaza Strip and head of the Palestinian negotiating delegation, announced that an agreement had been reached to end the war and aggression against the Palestinian people.
The agreement, al-Hayya said, involves the implementation of a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the withdrawal of occupation forces, the entry of humanitarian aid, the opening of the Rafah crossing in both directions, and a comprehensive captive-detainee exchange.
