Palestinian MFA warns against diluting UNSC resolution content
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry warns against rendering the UNSC resolution void of content, while the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine responds to the US delegate's claim that the resolution is not binding for "Israel".
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned against any attempts to dilute the content of the United Nations Security Council resolution adopted yesterday, emphasizing the necessary immediate implementation of the resolution and the adoption of binding mechanisms fully consistent with its text.
The ministry viewed the international resolution as suitable basis for achieving a permanent ceasefire and ending the war through political and diplomatic means, underscoring its binding nature and obligation to implement it.
Furthermore, the ministry asserted that the Israeli occupation's fierce attack on the resolution is unjustified and serves no purpose other than the insistence of Netanyahu and his right-wing coalition on achieving their undisclosed malicious objectives through military means, prioritizing the logic of brute military force over reason, politics, and diplomatic efforts to complete the destruction of Gaza and exterminate all forms of life therein.
The ministry pointed out that Netanyahu's declared war objectives are entirely contradictory and difficult to arrange in clear and explicit priorities without this inherent contradiction, explaining "Israel's" continued rejection of all international efforts to stop the war and ensure the protection of civilians and secure their basic humanitarian needs.
DFLP reaffirms binding nature of UNSC resolution
In a related context, responding to the US delegate's claim at the Security Council that the resolution is not binding on "Israel", the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) stated in a press release that the US policy is based on inciting against Security Council resolutions that do not serve its aggressive policy, while simultaneously supporting the Israeli occupation's barbaric aggression against the Strip in defiance of the Council's resolutions.
The DFLP stated that the US has become increasingly wary of the UN, seeing it as a heavy burden on its policy, as the United States and its followers grow increasingly isolated in the Security Council and the General Assembly, as evident in every vote on peoples' social justice issues.
The Democratic Front further commended the members of the Security Council who contributed to formulating the resolution, which once again exposed the isolation of the United States and its aggressive policies towards peoples, as well as its hostility towards the international organization and international humanitarian law, singling out the Algerian delegation for praise.
The DFLP concluded by affirming that there is no deal regarding prisoners that can be implemented except the one that ensures the release of Palestinian detainees held in Israeli occupation prisons in exchange for the release of Israeli captives in Gaza.
UNSC adopts resolution demanding immediate ceasefire after US abstains
Following the United States' abstention from the vote, the United Nations Security Council requested an immediate ceasefire between the Israeli occupation forces and the Palestinian Resistance, as well as the immediate and unconditional release of all captives.
With the US abstaining, the 14 other members voted in favor of the resolution, which was sponsored by the Security Council's 10 elected members.
Algeria's UN Ambassador Amar Bendjama expressed after the vote that the Palestinians have "suffered greatly," citing that the "bloodbath has continued for far too long."
Washington has repeatedly opposed the term "ceasefire", and used its veto authority to defend its ally amid the war on Gaza, which has killed over 32,000 Palestinians and injured over 74,694.
The US Ambassador to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, claimed that the US was "working around the clock" to drive "diplomacy on the ground," adding that a ceasefire could only take effect if Palestinian Resistance movement Hamas released the first captive.
"A ceasefire can begin immediately with the release of the first hostage and so we must put pressure on Hamas to do just that," she said.
The ambassador also alleged the US abstained due to the language of the text not including a condemnation of Hamas.
