Haniyeh heads to Tehran for meetings with Iranian officials
The upcoming marks Haniyeh's second visit to Iran since the beginning of the Israeli genocide in Gaza on October 7.
The head of Hamas's Political Bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, is set to travel to Tehran today for meetings with Iranian officials, IRNA reported.
During his visit, Haniyeh is scheduled to meet with the Iranian Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, as confirmed by IRNA.
Later the Islamic Resistance Movement - Hamas confirmed that Haniyeh, heading a high-ranking delegation of Hamas officials, arrived in the Iranian capital on Tuesday.
According to the statement released by the movement, Haniyeh is scheduled to hold a series of meetings and discussions with the Iranian leadership in relation to the latest political and battlefield developments in the Gaza Strip, as well as other events relating to the Palestinian cause.
This comes one day after the United Nations Security Council passed a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
Earlier discussion on March 22
It is worth noting that Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and the head of the Hamas Political Bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, discussed the latest developments in the situation in occupied Palestine and Gaza by phone call on March 22.
At the time, Amir-Abdollahian told Haniyeh that the world had become fully aware that the head of the occupation government, Benjamin Netanyahu, “has reached the end and is making his last moves in order to survive.”
He added during the call that the Israeli occupation entity is "embroiled in the Gaza quagmire," emphasizing that this was achieved thanks to the steadfastness of the people and the Resistance in Gaza.
For his part, Haniyeh stated that the occupation is obstructing the prisoner-captive exchange agreement and the cessation of genocide in Gaza. He emphasized that the humanitarian situation has become dire in the northern Gaza Strip.
Haniyeh called on the international community to immediately assist the residents of Gaza.
The upcoming visit will mark Haniyeh's second visit to Iran since the beginning of the Israeli genocide on Palestinians in Gaza on October 7th.
Haniyeh and Amir-Abdollahian met in February last year in the Qatari capital, Doha, as part of a regional consultation visit by the Iranian minister.
