Pentagon does not confirm US officials visit to Ukraine on more arms
The Pentagon did not confirm the trip to Kiev although President Volodymyr Zelensky had confirmed earlier that the US secretary of state, Antony Blinken, and the defense secretary, Lloyd Austin, would visit Kiev on Sunday.
On Saturday, the Pentagon said it has no comments on the statements made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky regarding US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin's upcoming visit to Ukraine.
"I have nothing for you," the Pentagon spokesperson told Sputnik when asked about whether or not the statements were true.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had stated earlier today in a news conference in Kiev that the US secretary of state, Antony J. Blinken, and the defense secretary, Lloyd Austin, would be visiting Kiev on Sunday to discuss additional arms deliveries to the country.
Russia had launched its special military operation in Ukraine on February 24, after the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR) appealed for help in defending themselves against Ukrainian provocations. Russia said that its special operation aims to demilitarize and "denazify" Ukraine and that only military infrastructure is being targeted.
Russian President Vladimir Putin believes the goal is to protect the people of Donbas, "who have been subjected to abuse, genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years."
In response to Russia’s operation, Western countries have rolled out a comprehensive sanctions campaign against Moscow, which includes airspace closures and restrictive measures targeting numerous Russian officials and entities, media, and financial institutions.
